Storyboard

Storyboard
The reason for creating a storyboard was to give me an Idea of what my animation will be, I didn't think it would be very time effective to storyboard every frame of  my animation, so I made a simpler storyboard that gets all of the main beats of the animation and gives a good idea of what I wan my animation to be. On the left box I have a brief explanation of what is happening in the adjacent panel, and on the right is a visual representation of what I want my animation to look like at that certain point of the animation.

Modelling basics 2

Derelict scene
In this practical we were tasked with creating a derelict village for use in something like a first person shooter game, we used the new tools that we were taught, such as grouping, booleans and alignment. The example of grouping that I used was in the small cylinder that you can see in the image above, I grouped the ladder with the cylinder as one building. Alignment was a very useful tool that can be used to place an object in perfect alignment with another, very useful for if you need to object perfectly parallel to each other. Finally we were taught boolean operators, you can see examples of this used above in the small rectangle wall in the middle of the image, I used a sphere to cut those shapes into the wall in order to create the effect of the wall being damaged by bullets or explosions.

Out of all of the techniques and tools that we used, I would say that grouping is the most useful one that we were told to use. While it does not directly affect the appearance of your models, grouping can be extremely useful, both to move individual objects as a part of a group, but also it helps make your work much cleaner in the outliner, as if you are creating a complex model with lots of different shapes, you can group the appropriate ones together and this cleans up the appearance of your outliner and make it a lot easier to navigate.

Modelling basics

Ship Wheel
The first task of this practical was to make a simple ship steering wheel just using shapes, so in my model only two different shapes are used, a cylinder and a pipe. I use the scale tool and the extrude tool in order change the size and shape of my cylinders, and the width of my pipe, I also used the rotate tool to turn the pipe on its side and rotate the cylinders around the wheel, I used the duplicate tool as I rotated the cylinders in order to create the poles.

House
The second task of this practical was to make a house, we did this using the add division, center and extrude tools. I started off with a single polygon cube, then I used the add division tool to add more sections to the cube, I used the extrude tool to extrude the two side parts of the house forward, and after adding enough divisions to form up the window, I moved the edges in order to get just the shape for the window frames that I wanted, and then I extruded them in to create the houses windows. I did the same thing to create my door. The center tool was used to combine edges in order to give the roof of my house  a specific shape when I moved the edges on the roof upwards.

In this practical, the most useful tool that I used was definitely the extrude tool, this tool is extremely versatile and can be used in a variety of different situations to achieve a multitude of different results.

Star wars: Moodboard

Star Wars Moodboard
Above is my moodboard, this shows the 3 different types of ship that I would like to model and use in my animation. The first ship that I chose to include was the T-70 x-wing, this is very similar to the original x-wing design, but it has 2 large cylinders in the wings rather than 4 smaller cylinder engines. The second ship that I have chosen to model is the Tie Interceptor, this ship is extremely similar to the Tie Fighter, but I thought that the Fighter would be too simple, and that more people would use it, so I decided to go for a slightly different design in the Interceptor. Finally I have chosen the y-wing as my last model, I have chosen this ship for a few reasons, the main reason is that the concept for my animation is one ship (x-wing) defending a bomber (y-wing) from an enemy attack (Tie Interceptor), that isn't the only reason though, I also thought that the design of the y-wing was very interesting and didn't look like any other ships in the star wars universe, so I felt that it would be fun and interesting to try and model. The moodboard also shows off the types of terrain that the ships would fit into, for the Interceptor and the y-wing they have mostly been used in space battles, but the x-wing has mostly been used in attacks on ground forces on the ground of a planet, so I have a couple of terrain options that I could look into using in my animation as well.
